An example of voice therapy

Let’s suppose you come to a session and say that you don’t feel free to occupy your space. Physically your diaphragm is tense. When you make a sound you hear and feel the tension straight away. Through your voice you connect with the tension and gain an insight into what’s causing it – you’ve had this feeling for a long time: ‘I mustn’t be a burden on other people.’ We talk this over and see what it means to you. When we continue making sounds, the vibration of the sound causes movement in the place that is stuck. Slowly but surely the tissue recovers its original flexibility and tone. You feel more space in your diaphragm, which not only has a physical but also a mental, liberating effect.
