Body-oriented therapy

Body-oriented therapy
In body-oriented therapy the focus is primarily on bodily experience. The idea behind it is that patterns only change when they have been really worked through, not just understood mentally.

Emotional problems often express themselves through the body
Think about feelings of stress, a tense posture, headache, stomach ache, etc. With body-oriented therapy you can investigate the emotional patterns that lie behind a physical complaint, and do something about them. But body-oriented therapy is worthwhile even without physical symptoms. Your physical reactions to breathing, movement or touch, for instance, will tell you straight away and quite clearly who you are: how you get on with yourself, with other people and life situations. They can be a real eye-opener.

Body-oriented therapy improves your contact with your body
It helps you to respond faster and more adequately to the signals your body is sending you. You learn for example to recognize pain or irritation as signals that you’ve gone beyond your limits, or tiredness and tension as a sign you’re neglecting your needs. The ability to respond to your body’s signals helps you to find the right balance between thinking and feeling, giving and receiving, effort and relaxation.

This is an alternative form of therapy.
